The Statistics overview: what do the numbers mean?

Discover all the secrets of the Statistics tab in the Plutko app. Learn how to read the charts, understand the key metrics and optimise your trading.

Short answer

The Statistics tab shows how your portfolio actually performed: realised profit or loss, dividends and interest received, the amount invested, a breakdown by instrument class and a comparison against a chosen index. It is driven by the same calculation as the tax forms, so the figure in your statistics and the figure in your return cannot disagree.

The Statistics tab in the Plutko app gives you a comprehensive overview of your portfolio’s performance. Instead of dry numbers, we have visualised the data so that you can immediately see where you are making a profit and where you are losing money.

In this guide we will walk through all the elements of the page and explain what they mean.

1. Key performance indicators (KPIs)

Right at the top you will find the three most important numbers of your trading:

  1. Total realised P&L (Profit & Loss): This is your “final grade”. It tells you how much money you have actually earned or lost by selling assets. It does not include “paper” gains on assets you are still holding.
  2. Total dividends + interest: The sum of all passive income. If you received a dividend or interest on uninvested cash (e.g. at Trade Republic or Interactive Brokers), it is added up here.
  3. Total invested: The current value of the money you have allocated to purchases and which is still in positions (or was invested in the past, if you are looking at history).

2. Visualising income and the portfolio

Below the main numbers you will find two colourful charts:

Monthly dividend income

A bar chart showing in which months you receive the most dividends. This is an excellent tool for cash-flow planning.

Allocation by asset type

A pie chart that tells you how diversified your portfolio is. Are you betting too much on shares only (“STOCKS”)? Do you have a balanced share of ETFs?

The colours quickly tell you the structure:

  • Blue: Shares
  • Green: ETFs
  • Yellow: Crypto / Other

3. Detailed metrics

The third row hides the “heart” of the analytics for advanced users:

  • Number of transactions: How many trades you made in the selected period. Too many transactions can mean excessive commission costs!
  • Win rate: The percentage of winning transactions. If this number is above 50 %, it means you hit more often than you miss. But beware — you can be profitable even with a low win rate, if your “wins” are large and your “losses” are small.
  • Average days held: Tells you what type of investor you are.
    • A few days? You are a “swing trader”.
    • Several years? You are a long-term investor (“HODL”).
  • Best month: The month in which you generated the largest realised profit.

4. Extremes: best and worst transaction

Plutko highlights your two “records”.

  • Best transaction (green): Your most profitable single sale. It shows the name of the asset, how much you earned, and the purchase and sale dates.
  • Worst transaction (red): A painful lesson. It shows the trade where you realised the largest loss. Analysing these mistakes is key to growing as an investor.

5. Top and flop assets

At the bottom of the page you will find two tables: Top 5 and Worst 5 assets.

This is not a list of individual transactions, but an aggregate by symbol (ticker). If, for example, you traded TESLA 10 times and made a profit 7 times and a loss 3 times, the net total for TESLA will be shown here. This way you can quickly see which share is better avoided and which one is your “golden goose”.

Tip: Use the year filter in the top right corner! Statistics for the current year tell you your current form, while statistics for “All years” tell you the truth about your entire career as an investor.
